G.R.E.A.T.
The Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program is a school-based, life skills competency program designed for both elementary and middle school-age children. Taught by uniformed officers certified in the Program, it is designed to help youth foster positive attitudes toward law enforcement, avoid conflict, resist peer pressure, and develop a strong sense of personal responsibility. Its primary goal is the prevention of violence, especially gang-related violence. G.R.E.A.T. is a rarity among youth violence and gang prevention programs in that it has been subjected to rigorous scientific evaluation and has data to demonstrate that, when implemented as intended, it has a measurable impact on the attitudes and decisions of students who complete the G.R.E.A.T. lessons.
